Formulated by perfumer Louis Monnet, Van Cleef is a woody, aromatic scent for men. It was released in 1978 and is described by most as dark and mysterious. The opening is aromatic and strong, notes of bergamot and juniper berries accented by fragrant basil, spiked with spicy hints of marjoram and thyme, rounding off with relaxing lavender. The middle takes on a warmer tone, notes of patchouli and vetiver giving the heart an inviting tone, blended with floral accents of rose and carnation. The base features notes of amber, incense and musk, finishing off with leathery accords. This romantic scent is most appropriate for evening wear and comes in a stylish black bottle with a matching box.
